Vetki Fish Malaikari is very similar recipe like Prawn Malaikari. I cook Prawn Malaikari on special occassions but few months back I had tested this malaikari recipes from vetki fish in a friends gathering. The idea of cooking this recipe had come from one of my friends and you will not believe the amount of appreciation I got from all of my friends. After that I started making this recipe frequently and today I also love to share the detail of this recipe with all of you.

Ingredients:
Vetki fish
(boneless) - 500 gms, cut in square shape
Turmeric
powder – 1 tbsp
Cinnamon
stick – 1” size
Black
Cardamom – 1 pc
Green
cardamom – 4/5 pcs
Cloves – 5/6
pcs
Onion paste
– 2 medium
Green Chili
paste – 2 tbsp
Cashew nut
paste – ½ cup
Poppy seed
paste – 1/4th cup
Raisin Paste
– 1/4th cup
Curd – 3
tbsp
Coconut milk
– 1 cup
Khoya – ½
cup
Ghee – 1
tbsp
Butter – 2
tbsp
Oil – 3 tbsp
Salt – as
per taste
Preparation:
Marinate
vetki fish with salt and turmeric powder (1/4 tbsp) for 15 minutes.
Boil the
onions in water for 15 minutes, let them cool and make a smooth paste.
Heat a pan
with oil and ghee and shallow fry the fish pieces. Keep them aside. In the same
oil add little butter and wait till it melts. Then add crushed cinnamon, black
cardamom, green cardamoms, cloves and fry for a minute.
Then add the
onion paste, salt and fry for a minute. Don’t fry it much as the onion is
boiled and almost prepared. Add turmeric powder, green chili paste, cashew
paste, poppy seeds, mix them well. Add raisin paste and curd. Stir continuously
for few minutes till oil separates.
Then add
coconut milk and little water (optional), boil it 2/3 minutes.
Place the
fish pieces into the mixture, spread over the khoya and cover the lid of the
pan, keeping the flame low for 5/6 minutes.
Then switch
off the flame and keep it as it is for another 5 minutes. Serve "Vetki Fish Malaikari" with hot steamed rice.
